Modern Sunset Garden
Ward’s colleague Lisa Zeder of LZ Design Group, Inc. was contracted to design gardens for the property adjacent to this clients’ home. The project grew to include a new modern two-story guest house, a dining pavilion and a wellness studio with indoor pool and spa. The buildings had to be deferential to the garden; they needed to either be screened or complimentary.
Ward organized the architectural program into modern “solid/void” buildings: saunas, showers, bathrooms, kitchens, garages and golf simulator room were placed in “solid” masonry clad simple shapes while rooms with views became open, glazed, conservatory-like “voids” with sheltering undulating roofs. The existing main house and pool house on the neighboring site would also be remodeled to open and connect to the landscape.
